The Northern Leopard Frog (Rana pipiens) is a common frog of most types of wetlands across much of the northern United States and southern Canada. The species may have an overall green color, or like the one in the top two shots on the left, a brown color. The dark spots surrounded by paler margins and the pale dorsolateral ridges from the eye to the groin are among the field identification characters of this species. The individual in the top two shots on the left was near Crouse Reservior in the mountains north of Vernal, Uintah Co., Utah, in June, 2007. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 l IS lens ans 2X extender.
