The Pallid Bat (Antrozous pallidus) occurs from western Canada southward through the southwestern United States and into Mexico. Among bats this species has the unusual behavior of catching its food on the ground rather than on the wing. The shots here show roosting Pallid Bats under the eaves of a cabin in the Chinati Mountains, Presidio Co., Texas, in September, 2005. The images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 1.4X extender and 580 flash.
