Pinnated Bittern (Botaurus pinnatus) is a species that is visually similar to the American Bittern (B. lentiginosus) which is more familiar to North American observers. The species ranges from southern Mexico south to Argentina. The individual on the left was photographed in Tabasco, Mexico in April, 1991, with a Canon T-90 & FD 400mm F/4.5 lens using a Fresnel flash on Kodachrome 64 film. The camera and lens were mounted on a Bogen tripod. The next shot below was photographed in Apure, Venezuela, in April, 1992, with the same equipment but on Kodachrome 200.
