The Red-bellied Squirrel (Sciurus aureogaster) is a tropical resident tree squirrel of Mexico and parts of Central America. There is also an introduced population of this species in south Florida. The two shots shown here were taken in southern Tamaulipas, Mexico, in May, 2007, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens. The black individual is a color morph which is fairly common. My thanks to John Koprowski at the University of Arizona for the identification of this species from my images.
