Red-capped Cardinal (Paroaria gularis) is a common species on the llanos of Venezuela. This bird was bathing in a shallow pool at Hato El Cedral, Apure, Venezuela, in April, 1992. The photo was taken with a Canon T-90 & Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens with a 50mm extension tube. The camera and lens were mounted on a Bogen tripod. Kodachrome 200 film was used due to the low light conditions, but the image turned out fairly well even with this fairly grainy film.
