The Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens) is found along the south Atlantic coastline of the United States as well as the coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of California. It is widespread in much of coastal Mexico as well. This species has two color morphs, dark and white. The dark-morph adult at the left was at a breeding colony along the Texas coast in Nueces County near Corpus Christi in March, 1991. It was photographed with a Canon T-90 and FD 400mm F/5.6 lens on Ektachrome film. The immature white-morph bird below was at Port Aransas, Nueces Co., Texas, in December, 1994, and was photographed with the same equipment on Kodachrome 64. The dark-morph adult in flight was at Bolivar Flats, Galveston Co., Texas in September, 1999, and was photographed with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/2.8 L lens and 2X extender on Fuji Sensia.

The below shot shows a dark morph immature Reddish Egret in June, 1997, at
Bolivar Flats, Galveston Co., Texas. The shot was taken with a Canon T-90 and
Sigma 500mm F/4.5 lens on Fuji Sensia film.
