The Red-footed Booby (Sula sula) is a widespread pelagic species of the Pacific Ocean and parts of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. It nests in shrubs and trees on islands. The species has two color morphs, white and brown, both of which display bright red feet in the nesting season. The shots shown here were all taken in July, 2003, on the Galapagos Islands where the species is very common. Like the Blue-footed Booby, there is certainly no question about how this bird earned its common name! All the photos were digital captures with a Canon EOS 10D and an EF 70-200 mm F/2.8 L IS lens. The white morph bird was sitting on a nest and happened to yawn while I was standing nearby and allowed this interesting shot. See below for more photos.
