The Rockhopper Penguin (Eudyptes chrysocome) occurs on sub-antarctic islands near New Zealand, South America, and Africa. It is a noisy and gregarious species that sometimes nests in very large colonies. The birds shown in the top three images were photographed in January, 2005 on Bleaker Island in the Falklands with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS lens and 1.4X extender. The adult pair at left is keeping their eyes on a chick as is the pair below.

The next three images of Rockhoppers were all taken in January, 2004, on New Island in the Falklands with a Canon 10D and EF 70-200mm F/2.8 L IS lens and 2X extender.
