The
Shadow Darner (Aeshna umbrosa) is widespread across most of the U.S. and Canada. It can be a common species in some locations, but it is seldom found perched. Most shots of this species, including these, are posed. The two shots of this male were taken near King Kirkland, Timiskaming Co., Ontario, Canada, in July, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 580 EX flash.
