The Sheep Frog (Hypopachus variolosus) occurs in the United States only in parts of south Texas. Its range extends southward into Central America. It is mainly nocturnal and is seldom seen. This particular individual had been disturned by some bulldozer work through a mesquite thicket. I noticed this small frog hopping across some sandy soil and took a few photos of it before releasing it. The images here were taken in May, 2002, in Kenedy Co., Texas, with an EOS 1V and EF 180mm F/3.5 Macro and flash on Fuji Velvia.
