The Skimming Bluet (Enallagma geminatum) is a widespread damselfly of the eastern United States and parts of southeast Canada. It is a common species on many ponds and marshes. The shots of a male shown here were taken in Taylor Co., Georgia, in July, 2005. These digital images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens with a 2X extender and 580 EX flash. Most guide books indicate that the blue shoulder stripe is often constricted, but seldom broken. Giff Beaton, however, tells me that this broken blue shoulder stripe as shown by these shots, is a fairly common trait of the species in Georgia.
