The Soapberry Hairstreak (Phaeostrymon alcestis) is a localized butterfly of parts of Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico. It is seldom found far from its larval food plant, soapberry trees but sometimes feeds on nearby blooming plants. The top 2 shots on this page were taken in May, 2008, at the Nails Creek Unit of Lake Somerville State Park, Lee Co., Texas, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender and flash.
