The Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia) is a breeding species of most of the northern two-thirds of the United States and most of Canada. The bird winters in the southern two-thirds of the U.S. The top two shots here show a wintering Song Sparrow at Bosque del Apache N.W.R., Socorro Co., New Mexico, in November, 2005. These digital images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.

The territorial and singing Song Sparrow in the next two shots was at Coyote Creek State Park, Mora Co., New Mexico, in June, 2007. These images were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 600mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
