The Southern Masked-Weaver (Ploceus velatus) is a species if the acacia scrub and woodlands of southern Africa. Like its relative, the Lesser Masked-Weaver, this species weaves its round nest from grass and creates a bottom entrance. The shots of male Southern Masked-Weavers shown here were taken near Nylsvley, Limpopo Province, South Africa, in January, 2006. The shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II & EF 500mm F/4L IS lens and 1.4X extender and fill flash.
