The Southern Red Bishop (Euplectes orix) is a member of the weaver family. The species lives in wetland habitats, particularly cattail marshes and similar areas. The top three shots on this page show males at the Polokwane Bird Reserve, Limpopo Province, South Africa, in January, 2006. The bottom shot shows a male near Dullstroom, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa, also in January, 2006. The top three shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II & EF 500mm F/4L IS lens and 2X extender. The bottom shot was taken with the same camera, but the lens was a 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
