The Spiny-tailed Iguana (Ctenosaura hemilopha) occurs from Mexico to Panama. There are several recognized subspecies and the one shown here is probably Sonoran Spiny-tailed Iguana (C. h. macrolppha). This animal was on the grounds of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum near Tucson, Arizona. A breeding population of these iguanas is resident on the property and are thought to have originated from an intentional release in the 1970s. These shots were digital images taken on April, 2005, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
