The Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis) is a species of the forests of the western United States and Mexico. It can be very rare and local and some populations are considered endangered. The first shot below is from May, 1983, and was photographed in Sheelite Canyon on Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. That shot was taken with an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic and a Vivitar 400mm F/5.6 lens with available light. Next is a shot of a Spotted Owl roosting on a ledge on a cliff face in the Davis Mountains of west Texas in October, 2000. That shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1N and a 500mm F/4 L lens on Fuji Sensia.
