The Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus) breeds across most of western North America and much of western Mexico. The top two shots here are of a male on breeding territory at the Dinosaur National Monument in Moffat Co., Colorado, in June, 2001, with a Canon EOS 3 and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender onFuji Velvia. The bottom shot was taken with the same gear and film and shows a newly fledged Spotted Towhee in Yucaipa, San Bernardino Co., California, in August, 2001.
