Like the name implies, the Springtime Darner (Basiaeschna janata) is usually found only in the spring. It occurs across much of the eastern United States as well as parts of southeastern Canada. The male in the top 2 shots on the left was found in the Davy Crockett National Forest, Houston Co., Texas, in March, 2008. These two shots were taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 l IS lens.
