The Squirrel Cuckoo (Piaya cayana) is a resident of a variety of forest types from northern Mexico south to Argentina and Uruguay. It is very widespread and fairly common through its range. The two shots here were taken at Chan Chich in the Orange Walk District of Belize, in December, 1999, with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/2.8 L lens and 2X extender on Fuji Provia film.
The next six shots on the left were taken in southern Tamaulipas, Mexico, in May, 2007. These images were shot with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 500mm F/4 L IS lens.
