The Streak-chested Antpitta (Hylopezus perspicillatus), also called Spectacled Antpitta by some authors, is a member of the antbird family. Many members of this group follow swarms of army ants through the tropical forests and feed on the tiny insects that the ants scare up as they move. The Streak-chested Antpitta ranges from the Honduras to Ecuador. Note the almost invisible tail which is a characteristic of antpittas. The bird to the left was photographed in Braulio Carillo National Park, Costa Rica, in November, 1991 with a Canon T-90 and FD 400mm F/4.5 lens from a BushHawk shoulder mount with a Fresnel flash. Kodachrome 64 film was used.
