The Swamp Sparrow (Melospiza georgiana) breeds across most of Canada as well as much of the northeastern United States. The species winters widely in much of the southeastern United States, west into parts of New Mexico, Arizona and parts of coastal California. As the name implies, this bird spends much of its time around water. The Swamp Sparrow in the image at left was in Kenedy Co., Texas, inJanuary, 2000. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 600mm F/4 L lens and 1.4X extender on Fuji Provia film.
