The Western Coachwhip (Masticophis flagellum testaceus) is common across most of Texas as well as the southwestern U.S. and much of Mexico. It is variable in color and can be brown, yellow, or even pink in some desert areas. The photo at left was taken in April, 1997, near McAllen, Hidalgo Co., Texas with a Canon T-90 and 100mm Macro on Fuji Sensia.
