The Western Forktail (Ischnura perparva) is fairly common small damselfly of the American west. It ranges south to parts of Arizona and New Mexico, but it is more common west of the Rockies. The top 3 shots of a male shown here were taken at a small water hole in the Pawnee Grasslands, Weld Co., Colorado, in June, 2007, with a Canon EOS 1D Mark III and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
