The White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis) is a resident across much of the United States, Canada and Mexico. It is a species which inhabits quite a variety of mixed forest types at all elevations. It is often seen hopping around a tree trunk, head downward. The top image here was taken near Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in November, 1998, with a Canon EOS 1N and EF 300mm F/2.8 L lens and 2X extender on Fuji Sensia film.
