The White-striped Longtail (Chioides albofasciatus) is a member of the skipper family which occurs in parts of South Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona within the United States. It ranges south to South America. The top image here was taken in Austin, Travis Co., Texas, in March, 2005, providing one of few spring records for the Austin area. The species can be common in summer and fall in central Texas during some years. This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 1D Mark II and EF 300mm F/4 L IS lens and 2X extender.
